Skid Row Housing Trust, which works to create affordable housing, just marked its first quarter century in business.

The Trust’s executive director is Mike Alvidrez – and he tells Wallace Chapman that the trust is dealing with a chronic situation in Skid Row.

NationSwell: Every citizen deserves to enjoy life. The City of Angels and the Skid Row downtown area, in particular, has a chronic homeless problem. And since other policies and endeavors haven’t worked, the city decided to try something different. So they built the Star Apartment complex.
Next City – Equity Factor: Last month, a group of public and private interests, including the L.A. Housing Authority, L.A. County Health Services and the Chamber of Commerce, earmarked $213 million to broaden a computerized system that links the homeless population with necessary services.
